EUREKA SPRINGS ARKANSAS ATTRACTIONS

(For weather by month, click here.)

There are so many things to do and see in the Eureka area, it is unlikely that you can do it all in one visit. The following activities are those that we think are most likely to bring you the most joy and memories and acquaint you with the real essence of Eureka Springs. It would take over a week to see and do everything in and around Eureka. The below attractions are just to get you started.

CRYSTAL BRIDGES MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART - This short 45 minute drive from Beaver Lake Cottages is an absolute "must see".  A spectacular array of works by the great American Masters.  If you have even the slightest interest in Art, Architecture, or Horticulture, this is one stop you won't want to miss.  Their 1 year celebration, November 2012, showed a record number of visitors 595,000 !!   This dream of Alice Walton (daughter of the late Sam Walton) is offered as a Free Attraction to the public.  My hat's off to Alice!

BLUE SPRINGS HERITAGE CENTER -  This spring flows 38 million gallons of water a day. Seasonal plants are always in bloom and well identified. It's a great way to enjoy nature and gardening
without the work. Formerly called "Eureka Springs Botanical Gardens," it was a passage point on the Trail Of Tears for the Cherokee Indians, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

THORNCROWN CHAPEL - This is another  "must see." Be still with yourself 20 minutes in this awesome glass architectural marvel in a wooded setting, and you'll think your life has changed. This chapel was the inspiration for Beaver Lake Cottages. The architect, Fay Jones, won the President's award for the design of this chapel. Thorncrown Chapel was named one of the top10 Architectural Achievements of the 20th century. Don't miss it. http://www.thorncrown.com

ABUNDANT MEMORIES - This is a "must see." An absolutely fabulous collection of antiques and everything old imaginable that lets you see how your ancestors lived, what tools they used, what clothes they wore, what weapons they used, etc. Housed in 26 separate buildings. Along the order of Williamsburg, Virginia, Sturbridge, Mass and Silver Dollar City, Mo.

EUREKA SPRINGS HISTORIC LOOP - This is a "must see." Drive or better yet take the Trolley or Tram or Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride through this historic loop to see beautiful Victorian homes, gardens, and architecture. Stroll through downtown shops & art galleries. Be sure to notice or visit the several springs along the way.

Belle of the Ozarks - This is a "must do." Several cruises a day about an hour and 15 minute to see beautiful Beaver Lake. The sunset cruise is very popular. This boat tour is only 5 minutes from the cottages, beside Starkey Marina.

Pivot Rock and Natural Bridge - one of the prettiest walking nature trails in the Ozarks. The trees and plants are well identified - a real treat.

Queen Anne Mansion - Originally built in Missouri in 1891, then dismantled and brought to Eureka Springs. Its five hand carved pocket doors and seven fireplace mantels and detail in the oak and cherry wood are awesome. On Hwy 62 between Hwy 23 & the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center.

Wings - Next door to Queen Anne Mansion, a Victorian tour home featuring exotic birds housed in beautifully designed aviaries.

Eureka Springs Railroad Train ride - available with and without lunch or dinner. The train takes you back in time to the turn of the century, stops at a small zoo along the way, purges its steam engine, a real treat and well worth the trip. http://www.esnarailway.com

Bank of Eureka Springs - Now at first you might ask, "Why in the world
is a bank an Attraction?" Well, this bank's downtown office has been
preserved with an old-time bank atmosphere. It has the old brass bars
between you and the teller, marble tops, a pot-bellied stove, a
hand-crank phone that actually rings to one of the staff (who will
actually answer that old phone), old-time floors, and just a real treat
to experience the true historical flavor of Eureka Springs.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT

The Great Passion Play (479-253-9200) is the primary and most famous evening attraction. When you go back home, people will ask you if you got to see the Passion Play, so you may want to put this at the top of your list. The play itself is at night. During the day you can tour the grounds to see the Bible Museum and various art. Many people, including us, find "The Parables of the Potter" and "A Walk with Peter" as enjoyable as the play itself. http://www.greatpassionplay.com

We also have two great country/comedy shows. Be sure to call for their days and hours.

Pine Mountain Jamboree  479-253-9156  http://www.pinemountaintheater.com
